ISLAMABAD, April 18: The executive director of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) on Friday ordered an inquiry into alleged delay in carrying out postmortem on the body of a woman brought to the hospital on Thursday.

Ammara Asif, 27, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a storeroom adjacent to her bedroom with head injuries in sector F-7/1 on April 17.

The body was taken to the hospital for autopsy where the delay in postmortem was reported.

A statement issued by Pims said police brought the body to the hospital at 7.30pm on April 17, which was kept in the mortuary.

The police forwarded a formal request for postmortem to the MLO at 10.30am on April 18.

The on-duty female doctor for medico-legal cases, who was deputed at the emergency department, started the postmortem at 12.15pm. “All the legal formalities for the postmortem were carried out and the body was handed over to the relatives of the deceased on the specific indications of the law-enforcement agency at 2.30pm.”

However, on the telephonic complaint of Abid Rahi at 3.30pm, the executive director Pims constituted a committee to probe into the allegation of receiving illegal gratification and delay in the postmortem. The committee has been directed to submit its report within 48 hours.—APP
