JACOBABAD, April 18: Amid heated debate at a meeting of the district council on Friday the convener announced that the council members would bring a no confidence move against the district nazim which would be referred to the election authorities to fix a date for voting.

The district council meeting held here on Friday was presided over by Naib Nazim Changez Khan Panhwar.

Friday’s session had to fix a date and time for voting on the no confidence motion in zila nazim Begum Saeeda Soomro, mother of Senate Chairman Mohammadmian Soomro.

The house witnessed a heated debate between the district nazim and the PPP backed members who alleged the nazim for misuse of power, nepotism, favouritism and kickbacks and commissions.

PPP backed UC nazims Abdul Sattar Brohi, Ghazanfar Jakhrani, Haji Israr Jakhrani and Sher Khan Jamali accused the zila nazim Begum Saeeda Soomro for not carrying out development schemes during her tenure and said that all the people friendly works were neglected and funds allocated for construction were usurped and schemes did not materialise due to non-completion of stipulated period.

They alleged that their union councils were completely neglected while the UCs of favourite nazims were provided funds which they used illegally.

They traded charges against the incumbent district nazim who was present and were in wait to answer their question once they sat calm. PPP MNA Mir Aijaz khan Jakhrani, DCO Mohammad Rashid and other officials of the district were also present.

After hearing the charges of opponents, zila nazim Begum Saeeda Soomro denied the allegations and in an emotional tone said that as all the schemes in progress were passed by sitting incumbent council and that she was not alone to be blamed for.

She said the allegations levelled against her were baseless and concocted.

Begum Soomro said that in the history of Jacobabad the development works were only carried out during her tenure and today Jacobabad has constructed roads, potable water which was inaugurated by her son, Mohammadmian Soomro, and many children parks.

Later, the convener Changez khan announced that he would write to the election authorities to fix a date for the no confidence move.

Heavy contingents of the police were present around the zila council hall.
