PESHAWAR, April 16: The digging being carried out for construction of a multi-storey plaza at Ramdas bazaar caused damages to several residential quarters here on Wednesday.

At least one house collapsed completely while six others developed cracks as work was underway at a plot for construction of a six-storey plaza without any precautionary measures in the limits of Shah Qabool police station, eyewitnesses said.

A police official told Dawn that the plot had been dug up earlier but the damage was caused due to rain.

The affected people, he said, did not want to register cases with the police and they were trying to resolve the issue through a jirga.

He said the owners of the under-construction plaza had assured the residents of compensation.
