LARKANA, April 14: The proposed Shaheed Benazir Bhutto medical university (SBBMU) would be a separate entity and Chandka Medical College, Ghulam Muhammed Mahar Medical College, CMC Dental College, Gambat Health Institute and training schools of paramedics in Larkana and Sukkur region will be its constituent institutions.
Prof Sikandar Shaikh principal of CMC stated this while speaking at a function held at the CMC to celebrate the announcement of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah for establishing the university on Monday.
He referred to his meetings with the chief minister and Faryal Talpur who looks after Larkana matters on April 6 wherein it was agreed to establish a medical university as the slain leader Ms Benazir Bhutto had dreamt for it. The Sindh chief minister made this announcement on Saturday.
He said the matter was also discussed threadbare with Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, speaker of the Sindh Assembly, who had supported the idea and promised all possible assistance in this regard.
The university would come up with an Act through Sindh Assembly, he said adding that the proposed draft had already been prepared and handed over to the concerned for the early finalisation of the plan.
Earlier the quarters concerned were of the view to upgrade CMC but later the idea was dropped, he said. And now CMC would be the constituent college of the proposed university, he added. A suitable piece of land would be acquired on the outskirts of Larkana for the purpose, further said.
CMC vice-principal Dr Sikandar Mughal and students of various batches also spoke on the occasion.
