HYDERABAD, Oct 23: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE), DSP Ali Asghar Qureshi submitted the chargesheet against two suspended and arrested police officials, Sub-Inspector Habibullah Chand and ASI Aijaz Deeshak, before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), Hyderabad, on Tuesday.

Both the police officials have been remanded to judicial custody.

The case was lodged on Sept 11 after the two police officials, who were in a car, tried to dodge the civil judge, Asif Soomro, and ACE officials hitting them in the process causing injuries to the judge and the ACE officials.

The court has issued non-bailable warrants against two absconding head constables, Hubdar Ali and Abdul Hafeez.

The case was lodged after a trap was arranged against two policemen who had taken bribe from a transporter, Ashraf, in a theft case.

The DSP, Malik Mulazim Hussain, recorded the statements of two witnesses, Tikka Khan and Ashraf, before the Judicial Magistrate- I, Fida Hussain Mughal.

Meanwhile, the remand of police officials obtained by the Cantonment police from the Judicial Magistrate-I expired on Tuesday.

The cantonment police would also submit the chargesheet in the Anti-Terrorism Court as the police officials were facing trial under sections of the newly-amended ATA.

BAIL APPLICATION: A bail application of Dr Niaz Kalani, Vice Chairman, Jeay Sindh Quami Mahaaz, has been filed before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), Hyderabad, on Tuesday.

A. Bachayo Soomro was appearing on behalf of the accused.

Dr Kalani was arrested along with Bashir Qureshi, Chairman, JSQM, on Oct 17 from Nasim Nagar area by a heavy contingent of police.

The Cantonment police station SHO, Javed Khanzada, had submitted the supplementary chargesheet of the crime which was lodged on Oct 1, 1999. The case was lodged after JSQM activists staged a protest demonstration before the press club to protest the detention of Bashir Khan Qureshi under Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance (MPO), 1960.

The applicant’s lawyer claimed in the application that his client had been implicated in the case with mala fide intention and due to political victimization.

He argued that he was a political leader and was holding meetings and attending problems, yet he was declared a proclaimed offender and an absconding accused in the matter. He said that he had got nothing to do with the charges levelled against him by the police.

The applicant said that it was a false case against him only to wreak vengeance.

The application is fixed for hearing on Oct 27.

Presently, Bashir Qureshi and Dr Niaz Kalani were being kept in the Special Prison Nara.
