HYDERABAD, April 23: A large number of employees of Hyderabad city, Latifabad, and Qasimabad tehsil councils on Tuesday brought out a rally on trucks, tractors and garbage vans in support of President Pervez Musharraf and the referendum scheduled to be held on April 30.

The rally, which was brought out under the aegis of the Mutahidda Labour Federation (MLF), started from the Rani Bagh and after marching on the main city roads terminated at the Hyderabad Press Club.

Addressing the rally, the central vice president of the federation, M. Akram Rajput, Chundgi Lal, Bashir Masih, Imam Bux Bhatti, and Eijaz Shah said that the workers had always remained in the vanguard of all democratic struggles.

They, however, regretted that whenever any political party was voted to power, its leaders became the worse dictators in civvies.

They said that the steps taken by Gen Musharraf against sectarianism, terrorism and corruption must be supported as Pakistan had emerged a liberal and peaceful state on the international level.

They called upon the elected representatives of the local bodies to work in accordance with the local government ordinance, implement the service rules, and the written agreements signed between the unions and the local councils.

They condemned the promotions of unqualified and junior staff at high posts.

They demanded that all the promotions should be given through the DPC to the deserving and senior staff. They further demanded that the employees should be paid their salaries and outstanding dues on time, and 40 per cent employment should be reserved for the children of retired and expired employees of the union councils.
