Commanders briefed on security

ISLAMABAD, April 11: Chief of Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani presided over a meeting of Corps Commanders on Friday.

The participants were given a comprehensive briefing on the prevailing security environment, a brief press release issued by the ISPR said.

Unlike ISPR statement issued after the previous corps commanders’ conference in which the army chief had dispelled the perception of the army distancing itself from President Pervez Musharraf and said that the army would support the democratic process, the sketchy press release issued on Friday did not mention any significant remarks by Gen Kayani.

It also did not elaborate the points discussed by the Corps Commanders.

The conference took a ‘holistic view’ of the operational preparedness of the army. It also reviewed the ongoing training activities.

The army chief appreciated the efforts of military commanders to focus on training and operational matters and demanded a cutting edge level of motivation and operational standards.—Reporter
