HYDERABAD, April 11: Lawyers demanded arrests of people involved in Wednesday’s violence in Karachi as they observed a day of mourning across the province on Friday over the deaths of their colleagues.

They held rallies and general body meetings at the offices of District Bar Associations to condemn violence against lawyers and killings of innocent people.

In Hyderabad, lawyers observed a day of mourning by boycotting the courts and wearing black armbands. They offered prayers for the departed souls before staging a rally, which started from the Civil Courts carrying black flags and portraits of deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry and terminated at the starting point after marching on Fatima Jinnah road.

The president of Hyderabad High Court Bar Association (HCBA) Qazi Abdul Sattar, HCBA general secretary Allah Bachayo Soomro, Hyderabad DBA president Chaudhry Bashir Gujjar and DBA general secretary Nisar Durrani condemned use of violence against lawyers in Karachi on April 9 and said that they would continue struggle till the deposed judges were reinstated.

In Shikarpur, lawyers continued boycott of courts on the second consecutive day in protest against killings of lawyers and other innocent people by terrorists. They also offered Ghaibana Nimaz-e-Janaza for the departed souls.

In Nawabshah, DBA members boycotted courts and offered Ghaibana Nimaz-e-Janaza for the victims of Karachi incident. DBA President Ali Mohammad Dahiri, general secretary Ziaul Hassan Lanjar and Hassan Tariq condemned the Karachi incident and vowed to continue struggle for the independence of judiciary.

In Dadu, Mehar, Johi and Sehwan Sharif, lawyers boycotted courts and offered Ghaibana Nimaz-e-Janaza. Lawyers in Mirpurkhas led by DBA President Salahuddin Panhwar completely boycotted courts, wore black armbands and offered Ghaibana Nimaz-e-Janaza in the premises of district and sessions court.

They also held a demonstration in the premises of the district and sessions court.

Lawyers in Umerkot, Naushahro Feroze, Moro, Kandiaro, Bhirya and Naushahro Feroze towns boycotted courts, staged rallies and offered Ghaibana Nimaz-e-Janaza for the departed souls.
