NAWABSHAH, April 10: A large number of fishermen along with members of their families, staged a demonstration outside the press club on Thursday in protest against an influential contractor who they alleged had snatched their nets and boats to stop them from catching fish in the river.

Carrying banners and placards the protesters were raising slogans demanding justice. Led by Ghulam Qadir Mallah, Ismail Mallah, Nagar Ali, Hyder Ali, Ms Wazirzadi, Ms Jamzadi and Ms Husna they told journalists that though they had licences for catching fish in the river, yet a local influential landlord, who was also a contractor, deprived them of their boats and nets through local police.

They said they earned their livelihood by catching and selling fish near Farman Chandio village of Sakrand and now their children were starving.

They demanded that the chief minister take notice of the injustice and direct the police to provide them justice.

DEMO: The Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz activists staged a demonstration outside the press club here on Thursday seeking release of Dr Safdar Sarki and other nationalist leaders.

They said that Dr Safdar Sarki and other nationalist leaders and workers were being subjected to torture in jails.
