RAWALPINDI, April 4: Lahore High Court’s Rawalpindi bench on Friday directed the city police officer (CPO) to appear before the court on April 7 along with relevant record and report of an inquiry into a police harassment case.

Mohammad Fazal and his brother Mohammad Ajaib in their petition to Justice Kazim Ali Malik alleged that Nisar Ahmed wanted to purchase a piece of land from them but they refused to sell the property to him. On this, he along with his gunmen tried to grab the land by force.

After the incident, the Gujar Khan police did not register a case against the accused, even on the directive of an additional district and sessions judge.

Finally, a contempt petition was filed with the LHC which ordered the police to register a case under the charges of unlawful assembly, rioting and mischief with intent to damage property.

They alleged that the SP Potohar town had been influencing the police and directing them not to register the case against Nisar and his men.

Through their counsel Raja Zubair Advocate, the petitioners further alleged that Nisar started harassing them after they got the case registered against him.

They said on March 16 the accused along with his gunmen and police officials in a police van came to their house and took Ajaib to the police station. The police later released him after asking him to withdraw the complaint against the accused.

The petitioners submitted an application to the CPO against the police and the SP, which led to the initiation of an inquiry. The findings of the inquiry are yet to be finalised.
