KARACHI, April 4: The civil judge and judicial magistrate, Central, Sohail Ahmed, on Friday issued a show-cause notice to the investigation officer and directed him to submit a charge-sheet against three policemen who had allegedly opened fire on two motorcyclists.

On March 31, the court had remanded the accused in jail custody and directed the IO to submit a charge-sheet. However, he failed to comply with the court’s order.

According to the prosecution, the police constables — Mohammad Imran, Arif Hussain and Salman Farsi — had allegedly opened fire on Zubair Khan and Mohammad Saqib on March 21 near Shakhi Hasan, North Nazimabad. Both youngsters were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, but Zubair succumbed to his injuries while Saqib sustained serious injuries. A case (FIR No 164/08) was registered under Sections 302 and 324/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code at Taimuria police station against the policemen.

Meanwhile, the judicial magistrate, South, Ashraf Hussain Khawaja, on Friday remanded the owner of a hospital in jail custody till April 10.

The police arrested Dr Hasan Jalacy, the owner of J. J. Hospital, on Saturday night and produced him in court and sought physical remand. However, the defence counsel opposed it by stating that his client is a professional and should be remanded in judicial custody.

The prosecution said Dr Hasan had allegedly threatened Dr Tanveer Zubairi, the owner of a clinic adjacent to J. J. Hospital, with dire consequences. Dr Tanveer alleged Dr Hasan was also taking her patients in his hospital for treatment. She lodged an FIR (441/07) under Sections 401, 420, 416 and 605-B of the Pakistan Penal Code at Preedy police station.

The police also lodge another FIR (215/07) against Dr Hasan under Sections 506-B, 337-A (i) and 504 of the PPC on the complaint of one of the female staff members of Dr Tanveer’s clinic. The complainant said the accused, along with his staff, had beaten her up and threatened her. She also alleged that a bodyguard of the accused had pointed a gun at her.
