FAISALABAD, April 3: Scores of employees of the regional income and sales tax office on Thursday observed a complete strike and staged a demonstration against two assistant commissioners for implicating an office guard in a false case.
Immediately after start of duty hours, employees came out of their respective departments and gathered on the office campus. Raising slogans against ACs Saad Waqas and Tanvir Iqbal, they demanded action against the two officers for defaming the department only for their vested interests.
Addressing protesters, All Pakistan Income & Sales Tax Association (APISTA) regional office president Sheikh Maqbool Ahmed, secretary-general Sheikh Akbar and coordination secretary Rana Munir Rafahi said the two officers went berserk when guard Tanvir Shah deputed at the official residential colony inquired about their identification some two days back. They said that both officers abused the guard for daring to question them. Later, they got registered an FIR with the Civil Lines police station against the guard under sections 186, 353, 379 and 506.
They demanded immediate release of the guard, cancellation of the FIR and action against the two officers.
Mr Rafahi told Dawn later that the police had released the security guard after intervention of director-general Masood Ali. He said the DG also assured action against the officers.
He said the APISTA president had called a meeting on Friday (today) to decide the future course of action.
