LAHORE, April 2: Anjuman-i-Muzareen Punjab (AMP) on Wednesday staged a rally here, demanding restoration of lands to the evicted tenants of Kalyana Estate, Okara.

Addressing the rally, the AMP leaders said over 700 tenants had been thrown out of their lands, which they had been tilling for the last 100 years. They alleged the army had illegally occupied the lands, which belonged to the Punjab government.

They said Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto had promised to transfer the lands to the tenants and now it was time for the parties to act upon the words of their leaders. Otherwise, the AMP would be forced to re-ignite their struggle, which had already cost them seven lives and over 100 cases. They also said it was time to put an end to ‘Milbus’ and send the army back to its actual job.

They also announced holding of a Kissan Conference in the third week of April to energise their struggle for ownership of the land.
