KARACHI, April 20: City Nazim Naimatulla Khan and DCO Shafiqur Rehman Paracha visited Ali Mohammad Mohallah of Lyari on Saturday to condole the deaths of two persons who were killed during an operation against dacoits on early Friday morning.

On behalf of the City Government, the Nazim announced a cash reward of Rs100,000 for the policemen who took part in the operation.

They met the area people and lauded their bravery they had shown while chasing the dacoits. Accompanied by Capital City Police Chief Asad Jehangir, they assured the people of full protection.

Leaders of political parties including that of the PPP, the National Workers Party and the Baloch Ittehad also visited the area to express their sympathies and solidarity with the people.

Meanwhile, calm prevailed in Ali Mohammad Mohallah in Kalri on Saturday after the Friday six-hour pitched battle between people and dacoits claiming lives of eight persons, including five dacoits.

The battle which ensued between the people and the dacoits at 2am and was later joined by police forces and ended at 8pm with the arrests of three dacoits.

It was the first time that area residents, particularly youths, came out from their homes and chased the dacoits in the narrow streets of their locality.

On Saturday, the whole locality was in gloom and people suspended their normal business activity to join the funeral procession of the two victims.
