MUZAFFARABAD, March 23: Registrars of the three superior courts in Azad Jammu and Kashmir have been asked to furnish details of all the vehicles in their possession, it has been reliably learnt.

Highly placed sources told Dawn on Saturday that the details had been initially sought by the finance department and lately by the law, justice and parliamentary affairs division through separate letters addressed to the registrars of Supreme Court, High Court and the Shariat Court.

“Since the worthy judges of the Supreme Court, High Court and Shariat Court have been provided new vehicles, the old ones in their use may kindly be returned to the central transport pool at the earliest,” the registrars were reported to have been asked in the letters.

Both the departments had also requested provision of detailed list of the vehicles in the use of court officials/employees. The finance department had also asked the accountant general’s office not to reimburse any transport related expenses to any official/employee in contradiction of the official transport policy, sources said.

However, sources said, the direction could hardly deliver because the government officials using vehicles in violation of transport policy or entitlement rules were cleverly maintaining their logbooks which apparently left no room for any agency to question the usage or the expenses on wear and tear.—Staff Correspondent
