Clash at jirga leaves five dead

MIRAMSHAH, March 15: Five people were killed and three others injured in an exchange of fire between two groups in the Spinwam area of North Waziristan on Saturday.

Sources said that the clash occurred when a jirga of the Hassankhel tribe was discussing growing militancy and measures for the restoration of peace in the area.

The jirga was in progress when about 60 militants reached there and tried to disperse the proceedings, the sources said, adding that the jirga members and the militants exchanged hot words which led to the clash.

Four members of the jirga, Hazrat Gul, Madek, Sher Azam and Derya Khan, were killed. A person from the other side was also killed in the clash.
