Senior citizens’ home bombed

Published October 24, 2001

WASHINGTON, Oct 23: The Pentagon has received information indicating that US warplanes on Monday might have accidentally bombed a home for senior citizens near the western Afghan city of Herat, a senior defense official said on Tuesday.

“We are looking into it. We have no information on casualties,” said the official, adding that a “senior citizens residence” might have been involved. Such an accident would be the latest of several involving bombs that have gone awry and killed civilians.—Reuters
