LAHORE, April 16: The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA)  has informed the Supreme Court about its inability to hold elections of the Pakistan Amateur Basketball Federation (PABBF).

The Supreme Court in its judgment March 28, 2002, had ordered the POA to conduct the elections of the PABBF before April 14, 2002. The apex court had also declared that the ad hoc committee of the PABBF imposed by the PSB as unlawful.

 Former PABBF secretary, Khalid Bashir, filed the petition before the Supreme Court against the decision made by the Lahore High Court on Oct 25, 2001. Khalid  prayed the honourable court to  declare  the ad hoc committee as illegal and unconstitutional and allow him to hold the elections according to the constitution.

It was  learnt that the POA required the list of genuine voters from the defunct ad hoc committee to conduct the elections on April 13.

The list of voters which was provided by the defunct committee to the POA was formed according to the new sports policy.  That list was not acceptable to the POA because the national Olympic body is against the new sports policy  and has already filed a case against it.

Under these circumstances, the POA has informed the registrar of the Supreme Court about its inability to conduct the elections of the PABBF.
