KOHAT, March 5: The deputy inspector general of police, Kohat region dismissed in charge Gumbat police station on charges of corruption on Wednesday.

The DIG Zulfiqar Cheema had ordered an inquiry against SHO Gumbat police station, sub-inspector Asad Zubair after receiving a report that he had released a woman smuggler along with 20 kilograms of hashish after taking heavy bribe. The inquiry was conducted by ASP city Athar Waheed.

The smuggler was arrested at Khushal Garh police checkpost by Constable Alam Zeb who handed her over to in charge Head Constable Aurangzeb. The SHO struck a deal with the owner of the consignment and released the woman after two days.

He also didn’t register any case against the accused. On completion of the inquiry the corruption charges against the SHO and two other police officials were proved and the matter was sent to District Police Officer Dr Waqar for action. Dr Waqar dismissed inspector Asa-d Zubair from service and demoted the Khushal Garh checkpost in charge Head Constable Aurangzeb and constable Musharraf.
