KARACHI: Lyari nazim resigns

Published March 5, 2008

KARACHI, March 4: Lyari Town Nazim Malik Mohammad Fayyaz has resigned from his office, a confidante of the nazim confirmed here on Tuesday.

He said the nazim cited personal reasons for his resignation in the official letter, which Mr Fayyaz had sent to all the relevant government authorities. However, PPP sources conceded that Mr Fayyaz was facing tremendous pressure from party leaders, including MNAs-elect and MPAs-elect, who have been demanding his resignation because of alleged anti-party activities.

Malik Fayyaz was elected nazim of Lyari Town in the 2005 local bodies election. He contested against the party-nominated candidate and defeated him.
