LAHORE, March 3: The Lahore High Court has been moved for implementation of ban on manufacture of kites and strings.

Petitioner-lawyer MD Tahir said the district governments and police in Punjab failed to comply with the ban.

“As a result of their failure two children died and eight injured in Gujranwala on Feb 29 due to the kite-flying activity,” he added.

He prayed the court to order the district administration and the police to ensure a complete ban on this `dangerous’ game.

MD Tahir had already moved a writ petition, seeking directions for registration of criminal cases against the responsible police officials for not implementing the kite-flying ban.

The petitioner said after the 'illegal removal' of chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, kite flying was continuing unchecked. He added the deposed CJ had taken a suo motu notice and ensured the ban. —Reporter
