HYDERABAD, March 3: The Hyderabad chapter of the Government Secondary Teachers Association (GSTA) has threatened to launch a protest movement from March 12 if the district’s education department does not announce teachers’ promotions.

The association, which took the decision at a meeting of its general body held on Sunday, pointed out that the EDO of education had assured that the decision withheld on secondary teachers’ promotions would be announced soon after elections but the matter was still pending and even the initial work in this regard had not been started yet.

The meeting warned that if the notification on promotions, which had been withheld for last three years, was not issued by March 10 at the latest, the association would launch a movement from March 12.

The meeting demanded that the provincial minister for education and secretary should take notice of the problem and accept the teachers’ long-standing and legal demands.

Condemnation: Bishop Rafique Masih of Diocese of Hyderabad on Monday condemned the publication of blasphemous cartoons in Denmark and termed the act an abuse of the freedom of expression, which had hurt feelings of millions of Muslims.

In a press statement he urged the Danish government to ban publication of blasphemous material and stressed the need for creating religious harmony throughout the world.

He said that publication of blasphemous cartoons had put the world peace in jeopardy and called upon the United Nations and the Danish government to perform their role in this regard and punish the people who were responsible for the abominable act.
