SHEIKHUPURA, Feb 25: PPP candidate Javed Bhatti on Monday secured PP-169 seat after re-polling, defeating Sajjad Haider Gujjar of the PML-N with a margin of 1,208 votes.

Bhatti got 22,016 votes against 20,807 of Mr Gujjar.

Earlier, the PML Q hopeful has withdrawn his candidature and announced his support to Javed Bhatti. The PPP has already won PP-172 (Shah Jehan Bhatti) and PP-173 (Rai Aslam Kharl) falling in Nankana Sahib district. The election was held in a peaceful atmosphere and no untoward incident took place due to tight security measures.

The election results of PP-169 were withheld in 11 polling stations on Feb 18 owing to massive rigging pointed out by independent candidate Sabir Bhatti. The respective presiding officers in their reports had informed the higher authorities about rigging at 11 polling stations, including Tondegru, Ogand, Makki, Barth Bhinder, Kot Bhattian and Lalianwala.

ROBBERIES: Dacoits struck three times here on Monday in the district.

In the first incident, three dacoits intercepted one Nassan Raza on GT Road and snatched his bike and a cash of Rs18,000 at gunpoint.

In Begum Kot locality, robbers barged into Sheikh Arshad’s shop and took away cloth, cash and other valuables worth thousands of rupees.

In another incident, three gunmen stopped banker Asif and robbed him of cash, a cell phone and other valuables. Police are investigating. — Correspondent
