MANSEHRA, Feb 24: A student, who was allegedly beaten by a constable, died of his injury in a hospital here on Sunday, the police and doctors said.

The victim, Hammad Assad, had been admitted to the Ayub Medical Complex, Abbottabad with a fatal head injury he had suffered when a constable, Abdul Waheed, allegedly hit him on Friday.

Hammad’s autopsy was carried out at the DHQ hospital, Mansehra after which the people of the Noguzi area placed his body on the Mansehra-Abbottabad road, blocking it for traffic to protest against the alleged police highhandedness.

Hammad Assad was going home on a motorbike along with a friend of his on Friday, when the constable Abdul Waheed intercepted them near Nisar Bagh and did not allow them to proceed further, which resulted in a scuffle between them with Waheed allegedly hitting Hammad in the head, wounding him severely.

The city police are reported to have arrested Abdul Waheed on an FIR filed by Hammad during his injury.
