Construction on state land opposed

MUZAFFARABAD, April 13: The AJK Local Government and Rural Development Department (LG&RD) has strictly told the Special Communications Organization (SCO) to refrain from making any construction on its land in a nearby town, Dawn has learnt.

The SCO, sources said, was constructing a building to set up a telephone exchange in Garhi Dopatta, some 25 kilometres south of here, on a piece of land with the Local Government Markaz in the town.

According to sources, the SCO was allowed some two years ago to temporarily use a portion of the said piece of land for installation of a mobile telephone exchange.

However, of late the organization has initiated construction on this land without even formally informing the department that owns it.

The sources said the LG&RD Director had written a letter to the commanding officer of the SCO, asking the latter to remove encroachments of the organization on the LG&RD’s land.
