JI, PTI Condemn torture of lawyers

Published February 22, 2008

LAHORE, Feb 21: The Jamaat-i-Islami and the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf have condemned torture of lawyers in Islamabad and Karachi.

In a statement on Thursday, Jamaat Secretary-General Syed Munawwar Hasan said torture of peaceful citizens on the behest of the outgoing interim government at a time when the electoral process had been completed and new civilian governments were going to assume charge in the centre and provinces was regrettable.

He held President Musharraf responsible for the sufferings of the lawyers in both the cities. He demanded that the winners of Feb 18 vote should take a notice of the threats.

Meanwhile, the PTI also condemned arrests and baton-charge of lawyers.
