‘No serious lapse by doctor’

Published April 12, 2002

LAHORE, April 11: The Punjab health minister on Thursday received the report of the inquiry conducted into the alleged negligence of the Services Hospital doctors in providing treatment to Sami Aleem, the son of Dawn’s Ashraf Mumtaz.

Minister Mahmood Chaudhry told Dawn that the inquiry report had not found any serious lapse on the part of the doctors. The report says the junior doctor had made all possible efforts. However, he has been charged with failure to call his seniors and to allow the patient to be sent to the Lahore General Hospital without proper care and management.

The minister said he would himself study the report as a surgeon besides sending it to another expert for his comments. “Any action on the report will be taken after the comments received by the expert,” he said.
