QUETTA, Feb 9: Dr Chishti Mujahid, a senior columnist and photojournalist, was killed by a gunman in Satellite Town on Saturday morning. He was 55.

According to police sources, Dr Mujahid along with his wife came out of their house for proceeding to the Helpers’ Eye Hospital. When they reached near the van waiting to take them to the hospital, a young man approached Dr Mujahid and opened fire with an automatic weapon.

He received two bullets — one in the face and the other near the chest. His wife and the driver took him to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Baloch Liberation Army has claimed responsibility for the killing. BLA spokesman Meerak Baloch telephoned the Quetta Press Club and said Dr Mujahid had been killed because he was working ‘against’ the Baloch cause.

He will be buried on Sunday afternoon.
