LAHORE, Oct 22: Seeded players registered straight sets victories on opening day of the 38th national grass court tennis championship at the Bagh-i-Jinnah Monday.

Eleven matches in the men’s singles, three in boys’ singles under-18 and two matches in boys’ singles under-14 event were decided.

Following were the results:

Men’s singles:

Shahzad beat Muzaffar Siddiqui 6-0, 6-0; Wakeel Khan beat Humayun Javed 6-2, 6-3; Saeed-ul-Haq beat Mustafa Sherdil 6-3, 6-3; Irfanullah beat Gulzeb Niazi 6-0, 6-1; Fiaz Khan beat Shakeel 6-3, 6-3; Babar Ali beat Javed Iqbal Sindhu 6-2, 6-2; Shahbaz Ahmad beat Asim Shamshad 6-0, 6-0; Munir Ashiq beat Janisar Ahmad 6-0, 6-1; Shahrukh Niazi Jahanzeb Khan 6-4, 6-3; Mohammad Khalid beat Haris Naeem 6-3, 6-1; Asif Feroze beat Pervaiz Khan 7-5, 6-2.

Boys’ singles under-18:

Sohail Feroze beat Adnan Khalid 6-0, 6-0; Kumail Hassan beat Imran 6-0, 6-1; Mustafa Sherdil beat Ammar Zaeem 6-1, 6-0.

Boys’ singles under-14:

Kumail Hassan beat Haseeb 6-3, 6-4; Danial Shahrukh beat Ahmad Aslam 6-1, 7-6.

On second day of the championship Tuesday, second round of men’s singles will begin at 10 am. The boys’ singles under-18 and the boys’ singles under-14 matches will be starti at 2 pm.
