ISLAMABAD, Feb 7: A joint team of law enforcers on Wednesday night recovered a British national kidnapped for ransom from the capital last week.
The investigation team comprising officials of an intelligence agency and Islamabad and Mardan police raided a house near Sakot, Mardan, and recovered Rahman Danish and shifted him to Islamabad.
The team also arrested six persons including three women for their alleged involvement in the kidnapping case.
However, some of their accomplices including the gang leader and the mastermind of the case, identified as Rehmat, escaped.
A few days back a police team had also gone to the village to recover the kidnap victim but without success.
The police said the gang was also involved in car-snatching cases in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, besides kidnapping for ransom cases in different areas of NWFP.
The police suspected that the house servant of Mr Danish, who also belonged to Mardan, was involved in the case.
Some clues have been found to his alleged involvement, police said, adding the accused was also at large.
Five armed men wearing masks entered the house of the 80-year- old Englishman at Simly Dam Road in Bhara Kahu on January 28 and held him along with his wife at gunpoint.
The culprits looted Rs40,000 cash, gold ornaments weighing 10 tola, five mobile phones and a laptop and then took away Mr Danish along with them.
Later, they called to his wife, Sabiha, and demanded a big sum of money for his release. They made at least four to five calls for the payment of the ransom and later agreed to half the amount.
Monitoring the phone calls, the team traced the location of the culprits but did not take immediate action in the fear that the culprits might kill the victim.
Gradually, the investigators managed to build pressure on the kidnappers which forced them to negotiate.
The police raided the house when they were confident that the kidnappers were not in a position to take extreme action against the victim.
When the team raided the house, the kidnap victim was found lying in a room tied with a rope.
Mr Danish has been living in Bhara Kahu for the last seven years and works with the United Nations.
