RAWALPINDI, Feb 5: Speakers on Tuesday stressed the need for undertaking short-term development projects to lessen public problems and raise the living standard of the masses.

The demand was made in a Hamdard Thinkers’ Forum on “Future government and expectations of the public”.

The speakers said: “We lacked consistency in every sphere, especially politics.”

Incompletion of tenure of the parliament has always been a major concern that has increased economic disparities, as developmental projects initiated by a government often fail to get approval of the next. This cycle continues and the sufferer remains the layman, they added.

“It is also the responsibility of the state to provide security that is essential for development of the country,” they noted.

According to the speakers, disparities in the education sector, price hike and unemployment are the menaces that need to be addressed on priority basis by the future government as these are the issues that have made the life of the common man miserable.

They said there was a dire need for enhancing technical education along with the formal education.

Both public awareness and public pressure are essential to pin the political parties down to improve the education sector, which can also diminish many moral ills in the society, they added.

“Election is no remedy for all the ills. In fact, it is the completion of tenure by any democratic governing body which is essential for the progress,” the speakers concluded.
