KARACHI, April 10: Twenty-nine vehicles — 14 cars and 15 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Wednesday, the police said.
Police sources said that nine cars were hijacked in different Towns, including Gulshan, Jamshed and Saddar Towns. Five others were stolen in Saddar, Gulberg and North Nazimabad Towns.
Eight motorcycles were hijacked in Saddar, Korangi, Shah Faisal and other Towns. Seven others were stolen in various parts of the city.
The police also claimed on Wednesday to have recovered a stolen car and two motorcycles in the city.
BEATEN UP: An area Nazim was allegedly beaten up by paramedics of Qatar Hospital in Orangi Town on Wednesday.
The area Nazim, Mohammed Habib, brought an injured patient to Qatar Hospital for treatment. The duty doctor told the Nazim to first get a patient’s slip. The Nazim insisted that the patient should be attended first, and formalities could be dealt with later. This led to arguments resulting in manhandling of the Nazim by paramedical staff of the hospital, the police said.
Later, the Nazim approached the police. However, no case had been registered when this report was filed.
DIE: Two men died and another was injured when they fell from an under construction multi-storey building on I. I. Chundrigar Road on Wednesday.
The police said that an elevator, used in the construction of multi-storey buildings, was carrying Amjad, aged 35, an electrician, Jameel, aged 40, the elevator operator, and Amjad, aged 30, a foreman, when it fell down from a height of the 14th or 15th level of the under-construction MCB Towers.
The three injured men were rushed to Civil Hospital, where doctors pronounced electrician Amjad and Jameel dead on arrival. Foreman Amjad was admitted to the hospital.
The police claimed that the accident took place due to carelessness on the part of the builder. However, police were not sure as to what caused the elevator to fall from such a height.
