Mustafa in last eight

KARACHI, Feb 3: Mustafa Zaidi on Sunday became the first player to reach the juniors’ under-17 singles last eight with an emphatic 6-2, 6-1 victory over Ahad Khan in the Open Sindh ranking tennis championship at the DHA synthetic courts.

In the under-15 singles, top seed and Sindh No 1, Abdul Rehman, is among 10 who have also made it to the pre quarter-finals. He whipped Ali Muzaffar 6-1, 6-3 in his opening first round match.

Meanwhile, the men’s singles qualifying rounds could not commence on Sunday as per schedule and were postponed until Monday.

Juniors’ under-17 singles first-round: Shahbaz Khan bt Qazi Zain 7-5, 6-3.

Pre quarter-final: Mustafa Zaidi bt Ahad Hasan 6-2, 6-1.

Boys under-15 first round: M. Ahmed bt Shahbaz Khan 2-6, 7-5, 6-3; Abdul Rehman bt Ali Muzaffar 6-1, 6-3; Asfand Yar bt Ahsan Saqib 2-6, 7-5, 6-3; Noorur Rehman bt M. Ahmed Qureshi – walkover; Adil Mukhtar bt Arsalan Allahwala 6-1, 6-0; Ramiz Farishta bt Aamir Haleem 6-3, 6-2; Hamza Saeed bt M. Ali Idwani 6-0, 6-0; Mustafa Zaidi bt Farhan Mustafa 6-1, 6-0.
