Kurd vows to continue struggle

QUETTA, Feb 2: Ali Ahmed Kurd said on Saturday that lawyers would continue their campaign against the Musharraf regime until the restoration of the deposed chief justice and the pre-Nov 3 judiciary.

Talking to reporters at the press club, he asserted that owing to the lawyers’ struggle President Pervez Musharraf had to doff his uniform and allow Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif to return.

Dubbing the Feb 18 polls a fraud, Mr Kurd said that President Musharraf was not likely to hold transparent elections as he would like to see only those parties win which had approved of the “illegal” steps taken by him in November.

Praising the stance of the All Parties Democratic Movement, Mr Kurd said the masses would not accept results of a rigged election.

“Resignation of Mr Musharraf as president is a pre-requisite to take the nation out of the current impasse,” Mr Kurd said, adding that for holding an impartial and fair poll, Justice Rana Bhagwandas should be appointed as the chief election commissioner.
