PESHAWAR, Feb 2: Lawyers here on Saturday observed complete boycott of all the courts and vowed to resist any move by the Pakistan Bar Council of calling off boycott of the superior courts.

They also staged a protest demonstration after holding a general body meeting which was chaired by senior advocate Abdul Qadir Khattak. The protesting lawyers decorated the Peshawar High Court building with banners and posters inscribed with different slogans. Huge portraits of deposed judges including Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and Justice Tariq Pervez Khan were also displayed there.

The general body meeting was addressed by Barrister Masood Kausar, Qaiser Rasheed, Behlol Khattak, Essa Khan, Ghulam Nabi and other senior lawyers.

They said that the lawyers were completely united in the ongoing movement launched for the restoration of the pre-Nov 3 judiciary. They said their movement would only culminate after achieving the goals.

The speakers regretted that one after another military dictators continued to subjugate the people and abrogate the constitution. They alleged that the forthcoming polls would be rigged as Pervez Musharraf did not want true representatives of the people to rule the country.
