HYDERABAD, Feb 1: Teachers of government schools in Hyderabad district held a protest meeting and warned that if their just demands were not accepted, they would stage a demonstration on Feb 7 and consider boycotting the election duties on Feb 18.

The meeting was held under the aegis of the district chapter of the Government Secondary Teachers Association (GSTA) at the Government High School No.1 here on Thursday.

In the meeting, they accused the education department of delaying in promotion of the teachers for three years, adopting anti-teachers’ policies and discriminating against the teachers.

Speaking on the occasion, the district president of GSTA, Zamir Khan, said that the teachers of the Hyderabad district had been deprived of their promotion, though they were entitled to it.

Mr Khan added that due to this discrimination, senior teachers of the Hyderabad district had become junior to other teachers of the bifurcated district.

He also said that there had been lapses in selection of teachers for training courses.

He said that the deserving teachers had been kept away from examination duties despite the BISE Hyderabad derived 90 per cent of income from the schools of their district.

He said that the teachers of Sindh province had also been not given relief package which were given to the teachers of other provinces.

In the end, the meeting adopted resolutions demanding the promotion of deserving teachers, selection of teachers for training on merit cum seniority basis and announcement of relief package on the pattern of other provinces.
