NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, Jan 31: Over 30 low-ranking staff of the education department set up a token hunger strike camp on the National Highway near Bhirya town to protest the non-payment of salaries for the last two months.

They said that they were among the 292 lower staff who had been appointed seven months ago and were only paid salary till November. They said that neither the education department nor the treasury were telling them the reason for stopping their salaries.

They demanded of the Sindh chief secretary and education minister to intervene in the matter.

An official at the treasury office told Dawn that the secretary finance had stopped the payment of these 292 lower staff of the education department.
