GUJRAT, Jan 26: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) will ‘disintegrate’ because it does not have a binding force and a people-friendly manifesto, Pakistan Muslim League (PML) Punjab President Pervaiz Elahi said here on Saturday.

Speaking at a public gathering in Doga village of NA-104 constituency, Pervaiz Elahi said the PML was a ‘symbol of federation’ because it had fielded its candidates for Feb 18 election across the country.

He said the opposition parties’ proposal regarding formation of a national government and postponement of the election reflected their fear of defeat.

He said the national government was not in the interest of the nation, adding the PML would not let any one form a national government or postpone the election.

The former chief minister said Sharifs were not capable of doing the politics and were ‘cheating’ on people. He said the PML would ‘clean sweep’ the election.

He said his party would not support dissolution of local bodies before the election, adding President Pervez Musharraf had pledged not to dissolve the local governments.

He accused PPP workers of ransacking public and private properties and killing 60 people in Sindh after the assassination of Benazir Bhutto on Dec 27.

On this occasion, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz candidate from PP-257 (Muzaffargarh district) Gull Zaman joined the PML. Pervaiz Elahi said more PML-N candidates would join the PML soon.

PML candidate for NA-104 Wajahat Hussain, District Nazim Shafaat Husain and former education minister Mian Imran Masood were also present.
