ISLAMABAD, Jan 24: The Election Commission of Pakistan has rejected the explanation submitted by the Executive District Officer (Revenue) of Gujrat regarding the postings and transfers of revenue staff and asked him to withdraw the orders made in violation of ban on transfers and postings of civil servants.

The EDO Gujrat appeared on a notice before the Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Qazi Muhammad Farooq to explain his position on transfers and postings of revenue staff made despite the ban imposed by the ECP.

According to a spokesman of the commission, the EDO tried to justify the postings and transfers but the CEC did not accept his explanation and ordered him to cancel the order in question and advised him to be careful in future.

The spokesman said that on a complaint against the ASP of Kohat received from Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani, Vice-Chancellor of NWFP University of Engineering and Technology, brother of Syed Iftikhar Hussain Gilani, a candidate in the coming elections, the CEC directed the Provincial Police Officer of the NWFP to conduct an inquiry into allegations against the police officer and submit a report.

The spokesman said that while disposing of another complaint received from Mr Ayaz Amir, a candidate from Chakwal regarding violation of the code of conduct by his opponent, the CEC directed the District Returning Officer to take remedial action in accordance with the law.

Sheikh Waqas Akram, a candidate from constituency NA-89-Jhang-IV, sent a complaint alleging interference by the Tehsil Municipal Administrator of Jhang. The CEC directed the District Returning Officer to call for record of the TMA and after investigation into the matter sent his report to the Election Commission for further action in accordance with law.
