HYDERABAD, Jan 22: Police will implement government’s shoot-at-sight orders against the miscreants during or after the second One-day International between Pakistan and Zimbabwe here on Thursday.

These orders were not match-specific as they were issued in the wake of rioting that was witnessed on Dec 27 and 28 after the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

Police would deploy sniper shooters as well on Thursday and they would not spare anyone who tries to endanger the life of any citizen or law-enforcement agency personnel.

“I would rather like to clarify that it’s not a match-specific warning or shooting order. We have these orders after the assassination of Benazir Bhutto and we have clear instructions how to deal with it if God forbid any such situation arises,” DPO Imran Shaukat told Dawn after addressing a press conference at the police headquarters on Tuesday night.

Earlier, he gave final touches to the security arrangements for the ODI. He said the police would book under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) anyone who tried to scale over the fence during the match.

“If anyone tries to create any situation which endangers the life of any citizen or any law-enforcement personnel we have the permission to shoot,” the DPO said.

Over 3800 tickets have been sold from the two designated bank branches. It is believed that the PCB has doled out many complimentary tickets among officials and dignitaries.
