FAISALABAD, Jan 22: Six people died in a fireworks explosion at a manufacturing house in suburbs of New Sumandari Town on Tuesday.

Sumandari Deputy Superin-tendent of Police Khuda Yar told Dawn that Maratib Ali, a licence-holder, was manufacturing fireworks at his house when firecrackers stored there caught fire blowing the roof of the house.

Neighbour Abdul Razzak, whose house was being renovated, temporarily shifted to Maratib’s house along with his family a few days ago.

Maratib, Razzak, his wife Nasreen, sons Ashfaque, 10, and Ahmad, four, and daughter Ainee, seven, died instantly. The locals rushed to the scene and recovered the bodies.

The DSP said the police were investigating the cause of explosion. However, it was yet to be ascertained whether or not it was an accident, he added.
