Tribal area people under scanner

KASUR, Jan 18: The Kasur police have started collecting data of the people from tribal origin in the wake of the poor law and order situation in the country.

This was stated by DPO Tariq Abbas Qureshi in a press conference here on Friday.

The DPO said that a large number of people belonging to tribal areas, who worked here mostly as security guards and hawkers, were not even registered with Nadra.

As part of a security step, he said the police had taken photographs and thumb impressions of 150 such people and sent this record to every police station in the district.

He said that a team, headed by district security in charge Inspector Mahmoodul Hassan, would soon maintain a record of workers of tanneries where employed a significant number of people from tribal areas. Mr Qureshi said that similar teams would also start working in Chunnian and Pattoki tehsils shortly.

Regarding security arrangements on Youm-i-Ashur, the DPO said the police had also sought help from Rangers and army.

He said that Maj-Gen Raheel Sharif on Friday visited Kasur and deployed here two army companies. gangs busted: Police claimed on Friday to have busted three gangs involved in kidnappings for ransom, vehicle-snatching, robberies and cattle snatching and recovered a huge cache of booty and illegal weapons from their possession.

Talking to reporters, the district police officer (DPO) said that the Sadar police smashed Saithi gang and arrested ringleader Arshad, alias Saithi, and his accomplice Tariq after a brief shootout while their fellows Latif, Allaha Wasiya and Saeed fled.

The DPO said that Arshad was wanted in two kidnapping for ransom cases. The police recovered three snatched motorcycles, gold jewellery, cell phones and other valuables besides unlicenced weapons from their possession.

The Allahabad police busted Judgi gang involved in robberies and vehicles snatching and arrested ringleader Ijaz, alias Judgi, and his accomplice Ikhlaq while Allahayar, Shahid, Fazaldin, and Mushtaq fled when their den was raided near Allahabad locality. Five snatched motorcycles, cell phones, wrist watches and unlicensed weapons were seized from their possession.

The Allhabad police also busted Niamat gang of cattle lifters and arrested ringleader Niamat, alias Niamee, and his accomplice Asghar Ali and seized five stolen cattle heads and unlicenced weapons from them. His accomplices Rahmat, Riasat, Ghafar, and Ashiq, however, fled.
