KARACHI, Jan 17: The office of the Sindh Ombudsman disposed of a total of 2,708 cases in the year 2007.

According to statistics, 1,906 complaints were relieved and 802 rejected on the grounds of non-prosecution.

The ombudsman secretariat said that around 7,937 complaints were lodged with it from across the province last year. About 3,008 complaints were admitted for procedures and evidence under Section 10 of the Ombudsman Act 1992. It said that 530 cases were admitted for informal procedures under Section 33 of the Ombudsman Act and eight suo motu notices were taken during the same period.

About 13 applications were filed against the decisions of ombudsmen to the governor and all of them were rejected, it added.

The ombudsman institution has its regional offices in Karachi Central, Karachi East, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Nawabshah, Naushehro Feroz, Larkana, Sukkur, Badin and Dadu.
