KARACHI, Jan 16: Shaukat Tarin has been re-elected chairman of the board of directors of Karachi Stock Exchange for 2008.

He had also held that post for much of the part of last year following the resignation of Zaffar A Khan in May 2007. Mr Zaffar had stepped down to take up the job of chairman of PIA.

A KSE press release stated on Wednesday that the newly-constituted board for 2008 held its first meeting on Monday, in which the chairman was unanimously elected.

The members of the KSE had earlier picked up four directors to represent them on the board: Shehzad Chamdia; Mohammad Sohail Dayala; Munir M Ladha; Mohammad Shoib Memon and Dawood Jan Mohammad.

By virtue of his position as managing director of the KSE, Adnan Afridi also sits on the board.

As per the present rules, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) nominates the remaining directors.

The apex regulator has appointed the following for the year 2008: Ali Ansari; Osman Asghar Khan and Kamran Y Mirza.
