OKARA, Jan 14: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is still undecided about the new candidate in NA-144 (Okara-II) following the rejection of appeal regarding the acceptance of nomination papers of Muhammad Arif Chaudhry by the Supreme Court.
Since Jan 10, when the SC rejected the appeal, the local PPP ticket holders — Syed Samsam Ali Shah Bokhari (NA-145), party district president Muhammad Ashraf Khan Sohna (PP-190), Rana Ikram Rabbani (PP-191) and Muhammad Arif Chaudhry have held several meetings without reaching any decision.
It is learnt that Muhammad Arif Chaudhry wants to put his close friend and covering candidate Chaudhry Sajjadul Hasan as NA-144 candidate, but Ashraf Sohna is willing to contest for this seat as well.
The returning officer has already allotted him “elephant” as election symbol.
While Syed Samsam Ali Shah and Rana Ikram Rabbani have reservations about Chaudhry Sajjadul Hassan.
They along with Chaudhry Muhammad Arif met PML-N district president Mian Muhammad Zaman and his son Mian Yawar Zaman, the PP-191 candidate, and offered them to make seat adjustment with them.
However, the PPP central leadership will make the final decision in this regard.
