RAWALPINDI, Jan 14: A couple suffered severe burn injuries on Monday in a house fire that erupted due to gas leakage, police said.

Mohammad Younus and his wife Nighat Bibi, who relocated from Azad Kashmir’s Bagh district to Sadiqabad, were caught in flames as soon as Nighat struck a match to light a stove to prepare breakfast.

Police said the gas leak caused a huge blast that attracted the attention of the victims’ neighbours, who come running to save the couple.

On getting information, Rescue 1122 and police units also reached the scene of incident and pulled out the couple from the burning structure.

Both victims were initially shifted to the Rawalpindi General Hospital (RGH).

Doctors told this reporter that Mr Younus had sustained 70 per cent burns and he was being treated at the Rawalpindi General Hospital, while his wife was shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) in Islamabad as she was in critical condition after suffering 80 per cent burns.
