LAHORE, Jan 13: A hand-grenade exploded in a house, next to the office of the Sunni Tehrik on Pir Makki Road, on Sunday. However, no human loss or injury was reported.
According to Edhi Ambulance officials, the blast left windowpanes broken and some domestic goods burnt.
Lower Mall Station House Officer Noman Habib told Dawn Haji Arshad was asleep along with his wife and 10-year-old daughter in his house when a grenade lying on the stairs of the first storey of his three-story house went off at around 2am.
He said according to Mr Arshad he did not know about the presence of the explosive in his house and some unidentified people might have dropped there for the reasons not known to him.
The official said the bomb disposal squad disclosed in its verification that the grenade was made in Wah Cantt.
The police conducted through search of the house but found no other explosives and weapons there. Investigators found a window open and suspected someone might have used it for going outside or coming inside the house.
“We have interrogated Arshad and registered a case under section 3/5 Explosive Act against unidentified people on his complaint,” the SHO said.
He said the police were examining aspects of terrorism, sectarian violence and suicide bombing.
HAND GRENADE: The Green Town police arrested a 20-year-old alleged terrorist and seized a hand-grenade from him late on Wednesday night just 12-hour before the suicide blast near GPO Chowk on Thursday morning.
Green Town Supervisory Police Officer Mehar Mumtaz says that officials at a picket set up at Muslim Chowk captured a bearded man, later identified as Sohaib at around 11pm and seized a grenade from him.
Sohaib, of Faisalabad, is a member of the banned militant outfit Lashkar-i-Jhangvi.
Police registered a case against him under 5-Explosive Act and handed him over to an intelligence agency for interrogation.
The official said the accused was also being interrogated for his possible connection with a suicide bomber of Thursday’s blast. —Staff Reporter
