Muharram security in Khanewal

KHANEWAL, Jan 13: A rapid response force comprising experienced police officials has been constituted under the command of respective SDPOs to control emergent situations and avoid any untoward event during Muharram.

Khanewal DPO Shahid Hanif said on Sunday that three companies of 4-Armed Brigade would also reach Khanewal on Monday (today) to provide strict security cover to the main processions in Khanewal, Kabirwala and Mian Channu tehsils on Muharram 6 and 10.

The DPO said since Jahanian was a small town the police were capable of maintaining law and order and the army was not needed there.

He said efforts were being made to install close-circuit cameras in Khanewal with the cooperation of the district government.

“This year we will get the coverage of Muharram processions through video cameras”, he said.

As part of the Muharram security plan, he said the police had held meetings with peace committee members, religious leaders and officials of the departments concerned.
