MANSEHRA, Jan 13: Three more children died of pneumonia in the District Headquarters Hospital here as the earthquake-hit areas remained in the grip of severe cold after a long spell of snowfall and rain during the past week, hospital sources told Dawn on Sunday.

The victims were identified as Perveen Akhter (Balakot), Raheem Bibi (Sheikhabad camp) and Kashif (Kotkay).

According to the record obtained from hospitals in Mansehra, Oghi and Balakot, over 30 people, majority of them children, had died of cold-related diseases over the past three weeks.

People have been complaining of cold-related diseases, including respiratory tract infection, among the children living in prefabricated houses built for the quake survivors of Balakot and other areas.

The Saudi Arabia government had provided over 4,000 prefabricated houses to the homeless families in Balakot.

A doctor said that over 200 children had been brought to the DHQ Hospital in Mansehra, adding that over 80 per cent of them suffered from pneumonia.
