JI cancels membership

KOHAT, Jan 13: The Jamaat-i-Islam has expelled its member and a candidate for a provincial assembly seat from the party after he refused to withdraw his nomination paper in compliance with the party’s decision of boycotting the general elections.

A senior member of the Jamaat told Dawn here on Sunday that the district and provincial Shura had served notice on Dr Iqbal Fana to abide by the central Shura’s decision. But, he added, Dr Fana continued his poll campaign in defiance of the party decision.

Dr Fana is contesting the election as a JUI-F’s candidate from the MMA platform.

The NWFP Amir of the Jamaat-i-Islami, Sirajul Haq, after discussing the issue at the Shura meeting, cancelled the basic membership of Dr Fana on Saturday.
